So, we hit up Art in the Park first. Although I love this part of the festival, we never buy anything. It's the looking that counts for us. Local artisans line the sidewalks of the park and they close off Main Street for more vendors. While this is going on one side of the street, there are 5'x5' chalk drawings being created in the center of the street on the other side. Very cool.
Stop number 2...Junk Food Alley. It's so overpriced and so yummy! I tell Andy each year that I feel like we are Bobby and Cindy Brady (the one episode where they go to the amusement park and eat junk all day long and end up feeling sick). This year, I get an excuse to pig out! We got:
$6 Wisconsin Cheese Sticks with ranch for dipping (absolutely worth every cent)
$6 Loaded potato spuds (they somehow shave a potato into paper thin curls and load the with cheese, bacon, and sour cream after they are, of course, deep fried).
$4 for a Diet Coke
$10 for a Coconut Smoothie

Although it doesn't look amazing, the deal was to get a drink (we did the orange dream flavor first), a pirate shaped coconut to drink it out of, a beach ball, and a lei. Then, after you finish the first drink, you get a free refill. We choose pina colada the second time around. For festival food, not a horrible deal!
After filling our bellies to the brim, we walked over the river to the Old Fort. Here there were 'settlers' and all of their wares from the 1800's. You can get into this area for free and just look around at all of the old-time displays. Maeic especially loved the cannons being shot over the river. We didn't stay for it, but in the afternoon their were going to be pirates that were planning on seiging the fort by way of the river. Very cool!

In this picture, Maeic is checking out animal skins and gourds that an Indian has displayed near his tent. I think if it weren't so muggy, we would have stayed longer and taken more pictures.
All in all, it was a great way to spend a few hours and a few dollars ($40ish). We had a good time!
